Google Ads account suspended – find the cause and fix it before you appeal

A Google Ads suspension stops every ad in the account at once, and for a business that relies on paid search it hits sales the same day. The way back is a clear sequence: understand the policy, fix what triggered it, then appeal. This page walks through the common causes, the appeal process, the moves that make things worse – and how UNANOBO helps fix the website issues behind many suspensions.

What a suspension means – and how it differs from a disapproved ad

A disapproved ad is a decision about one ad or keyword: fix it and that ad can run again. A suspension applies to the whole account. Google uses it when it sees a serious policy violation, or a strong risk of one.

You can still sign in and see your data, but no ads will serve. Accounts that share payment details or admin users with the suspended one can be suspended too. If your problem is limited to individual ads, start with our guide to disapproved Google Ads.

  • The policy name in the email and in the banner at the top of the account
  • Which accounts are affected, including others under the same manager account
  • Any unpaid balance or failed payment
  • Changes made just before the suspension: domain, landing pages, payment method, new users

Write these four things down first. The policy name alone usually tells you where to look and what kind of fix is needed.

The most common reasons Google Ads suspends an account

Suspension notices name a policy, and the names are not always self-explanatory. Here is what they usually mean in practice.

  • Circumventing systems: showing reviewers different content than users, opening a new account to replace a suspended one, or resubmitting a disapproved ad with small tweaks
  • Unacceptable business practices: no clear business owner or address, looking like you impersonate another brand, or collecting personal data in a way that does not fit the offer
  • Suspicious payment activity: payment details that do not match the account, frequent changes of card, or payments declined by the bank
  • Unpaid balance: an outstanding amount after failed charges
  • Advertiser verification not completed: identity or business documents requested and not submitted in time
  • Egregious or repeated violations: for example counterfeit goods, or continuing to break a policy after warnings

Circumventing systems can be triggered without any bad intent: a landing page that redirects to another domain, a site that was down for a while, or an old account an agency once opened for you. Go back through recent changes in date order.

Website problems that often lead to a suspension

Many suspensions start on the landing page. Google wants to see a business users can trust, and a site with missing information looks risky.

  • No company name, address, phone number or email anywhere on the site
  • An online shop without the legally required seller information (特定商取引法に基づく表記), returns, cancellations and shipping costs
  • Prices or promotions that differ between the ad and the site
  • Unsupported claims such as "guaranteed results" or "No.1" – also a risk under Japanese advertising law
  • "Under construction" pages, broken links or no SSL
  • A display URL that does not match the domain the ad actually opens

If you run Shopping ads, Merchant Center reviews the same points. Our page on Merchant Center misrepresentation helps you see every fix the site needs in one pass.

How to appeal a Google Ads suspension, step by step

To get the account back you fix the cause first and then ask Google to review it. Appeals filed before anything has changed rarely succeed, and repeated rejections can make you wait longer before the next try.

  • Identify the cause: read the help page for the named policy and decide whether it is about the site, the ads, payments or account structure
  • Fix it: add business information and required notices, remove problem ads and keywords, align payment details with the account owner
  • Appeal: submit the appeal from the suspension notice in your account, explaining briefly what happened and what you changed
  • Send documents: for payment or verification cases, provide the ID or statements Google requests
  • Wait for the result: it arrives by email and in the account; sometimes within days, sometimes longer
  • Restart carefully: after approval, bring budgets back gradually while checking ads and landing pages

Do not open a new account while you wait. It counts as working around the suspension and usually gets the new account suspended as well. If you are unsure where things stand, Google Ads support can be reached through the Help Center to confirm the status of your appeal.

Habits that keep your account safe

Running the account the same way after reinstatement can lead straight back to a suspension. A few routines lower the risk.

  • Keep the ad account, payment profile and domain in your company's name
  • Review admin users regularly and close accounts you no longer use
  • Check the relevant policy before advertising a new product or service
  • When prices or terms change on the site, update the ads the same day
  • Act on policy warning emails as soon as they arrive

For a full checklist, see our Google Ads account audit. An audit also surfaces early warning signs such as a rising number of disapproved ads.

How UNANOBO helps: a compliant site, shown first as a free demo

UNANOBO reviews your suspension notice and landing pages and lists the likely causes. Where the site is the problem, we build a free demo of a page with clear business details, required notices and consistent prices, which you can open on your computer and phone.

If you like the direction, we fix the site, tidy the ads and account, and help prepare what to say in the appeal. The appeal goes out from your own account, and reinstatement is Google's decision, so no outcome can be promised. The founder handles the project personally from the first demo until your ads are running again, by message in Japanese or English.

FAQ

Can I just open a new Google Ads account?

We advise against it. A new account that replaces a suspended one is treated as circumventing systems and is usually suspended too. Fix the cause in the current account and appeal from there.

How long does reinstatement take?

It depends on how much needs fixing and on Google's review time. Simple site fixes can be ready for an appeal within days, but how long the review takes is up to Google. Allow extra time if documents are required.

Can you guarantee the suspension will be lifted?

No – the decision belongs to Google. What we do is fix each likely cause and make sure the appeal clearly shows what changed, which gives it the best chance.

Is the demo really free? What if I don't go ahead?

Yes, the demo is free, and there is no cost if you decide to stop after seeing it. After the demo you get a proposed scope, plan and estimate.

What should I send to get started?

The suspension email or a screenshot of the notice, your landing page URL and a note of changes made around the time of the suspension. If we need to look inside the account, we explain how to grant read-only access from your side.

Can this all be handled remotely by message?

Yes. Everything runs by message, in Japanese or English, and you get a reply within two business days.
