Google Business Profile management cost – what to pay for and what to do yourself
MEO (map search optimization) pricing in Japan ranges from a few thousand yen to tens of thousands of yen a month, and it is often hard to see what the fee actually covers. Google Business Profile itself is free, so many owners wonder how much to outsource at all. This page explains the usual pricing models and typical ranges, which tasks are best kept in-house, which are worth paying for, and what to check before you sign.
- Free demo – decide after you see it
- By message, in Japanese or English

Google Business Profile management cost: typical pricing models
MEO services in Japan are usually priced in one of four ways. Amounts vary with the provider, the area and how competitive your keywords are, so treat these as typical market ranges.
- Monthly flat fee: commonly around 10,000–50,000 yen a month, covering posts, photo updates, review replies and a monthly report
- Pay-for-results: you are charged for each day your business appears near the top of the map for chosen keywords – typically a few hundred to a few thousand yen per day, which can end up higher than a flat fee
- One-time setup: registering and optimizing the profile only, usually tens of thousands of yen
- In-house: the profile costs nothing. The real cost is staff time, roughly one to two hours a week
Some providers also add a setup fee of around 10,000–50,000 yen. Compare offers on their total cost over twelve months, including setup and minimum contract length – that is where the real differences show.
Why prices differ – and the risks of choosing the cheapest plan
Two plans both called "MEO" can contain very different work. Knowing where the price gap comes from makes quotes much easier to judge.
- Manual or automated: template posts from a tool are cheap; photos and copy prepared for your specific business cost more
- Website included or not: map visibility also depends on the content and reputation of the site your profile links to, so plans that improve the website are priced higher
- Lock-in: a low monthly fee sometimes comes with a 12-month minimum and a steep cancellation fee
- Review tactics: offering rewards for positive reviews or asking only happy customers to review are against Google's policies – be wary when a low-cost plan suggests them
- Account ownership: if the provider keeps owner access to your profile, you may lose control of it when the contract ends
Before signing, get two things in writing: that owner access stays with your own Google account, and what the cancellation terms are. For what MEO work involves in detail, see MEO services.

What to do in-house and what is worth outsourcing
Some MEO tasks are done best by the people who run the business every day; others go faster with specialist knowledge. Splitting them clarifies what you should actually pay for.
- Best in-house: replying to reviews, posting seasonal menus or new products, updating holiday hours, asking customers for reviews
- Worth outsourcing: the initial setup of categories, description and services; keyword and competitor research; keeping your website and profile consistent; structured data and GA4 tracking; analyzing views, calls and inquiries
- Either way: regular posts – in-house if someone enjoys writing, outsourced if nobody has the time
A setup that works well for many local businesses: an expert handles the initial structure and tracking, and your staff keep up replies and posts. With a solid foundation, ongoing work takes little time. If you would rather hand over day-to-day work too, see Google Business Profile management.

Checklist for comparing MEO quotes
When you collect several quotes, line them up against these points before looking at the price.
- Work included in the monthly fee: number of posts, photo updates, review replies
- Target keywords, with a clear reason for choosing them
- What the monthly report shows: views, calls, direction requests, website clicks
- Whether website improvements and consistent business details are included
- Setup fee, minimum term and cancellation fee
- Whether the profile and all accounts stay in your name
- Any promise of a guaranteed "number one" ranking – a red flag
Before asking for quotes, write down your official business name and address, opening hours, main services and price range, the customers you want and two or three nearby competitors. Proposals become much more specific. If you are also budgeting for your website, compare with SEO pricing to plan the whole picture.

How to tell whether the cost is paying off
Rankings alone say little about MEO results. Track the numbers that lead to real visits and inquiries every month.
The Google Business Profile dashboard shows profile views, calls, direction requests and website clicks. Add UTM parameters to your website link and GA4 can separate map visitors and their inquiries from other traffic.
- Record three months of numbers before you start, as your baseline
- Track calls and direction requests together as "visit intent"
- Ask customers who book or call how they found you
- After three to six months, compare the monthly fee with the extra visits
MEO typically takes a few months to show results. A baseline recorded on day one is what lets you decide clearly whether to continue or change course.
How UNANOBO handles MEO: an improvement plan and free demo first
Before you commit, UNANOBO reviews your Google Business Profile and website and shows you, as a free demo, how to win more visits from the map. If your website needs work, you get a demo of the new pages to try on your computer and phone.
The process is simple: free demo, feedback, launch, growth. After the demo you get a plan and estimate built only from the work you actually need. A common split is that UNANOBO handles setup and tracking while you keep replying to reviews. The founder handles every project personally, so you keep one contact throughout, and everything runs by message in Japanese or English.

FAQ
Does the free demo cost anything?
No. We build an improvement plan and a page demo based on your Google Business Profile and website. You decide whether to go ahead after seeing it.
What if I decide not to go ahead after the demo?
There is no charge and no contract at the demo stage. You can simply stop, and you are free to use the suggestions to manage your profile yourself.
Do I need monthly management, or can we run it ourselves?
Review replies and photo posts work best when they come from the business itself. Once the initial setup and tracking are in place, many businesses run MEO in-house. We decide together after the demo how much, if anything, you hand over.
What should I prepare?
Access to the Google account that owns your profile, your website address, opening hours, a summary of services and some photos of your premises or products. If you have no profile yet, we can start from registration.
How long does it take to see results?
Profile changes appear quickly, but changes in calls and visits typically take three to six months to show. Google decides rankings, so no specific position can be promised.
You work remotely – how do we communicate?
Everything runs by message, in Japanese or English. When something needs to be done in your Google dashboard, you get step-by-step instructions. Replies come within two business days.
