Easy-to-update CMS website in Japan – see a free demo first

If changing a single line of news means emailing an agency and waiting, your site soon falls out of date. A well-built CMS lets your own staff update text, photos and opening hours without touching code. This page explains what a CMS lets you edit, how to choose one, what to set up during the build and how to hand the site over so updates keep happening.

  • Free demo – decide after you see it
  • By message, in Japanese or English
  • One person from demo to launch

What an easy-to-update CMS website lets you do

A CMS (content management system) gives you an admin panel in the browser where you edit pages much like a blog or a word processor. WordPress is the best-known example; Shopify and BASE are common choices for online stores in Japan.

With a CMS, staff can usually handle these updates on their own:

  • News, blog posts and event announcements
  • Opening hours, holidays and price lists
  • New projects, menu items or products, and photo changes
  • Job listings and FAQs

Larger layout changes and new features are still best left to the developer. A good first step: write down who wants to update which pages, and how often. That list defines the scope of the CMS build.

Why many businesses cannot update their own website

When a company says "we can't update our site," the cause is usually how the site was built and managed.

  • No CMS at all: the site is plain HTML, so every change needs a developer
  • Lost logins: only a former employee or the previous agency knows the admin credentials
  • An outdated WordPress: core and plugins have not been updated for years, and everyone is afraid to touch it
  • A confusing admin panel: nobody but the builder knows which field changes which page
  • No written steps: the know-how leaves with each person who changes roles

An outdated site makes visitors wonder whether you are still open before they ever call. If any of this sounds familiar, start by confirming who holds the domain and hosting contracts and whether you have the admin logins.

Choosing a CMS: start with who edits and what

Pick the system your staff can use without hesitation. A rough guide:

  • WordPress: company, shop and blog-driven sites. Very flexible; page and post types can be shaped to your content. Needs regular core and plugin updates
  • Shopify: serious online selling. Products, stock and orders in one place, with no server to maintain
  • BASE: a simple online store you can open without upfront fees, with a very plain admin panel
  • Mostly static plus a small CMS: if updates are rare, an editable news section may be all you need

For a side-by-side view, see how to compare and choose a CMS. If WordPress is on your shortlist, WordPress website production lists what to check when choosing who builds it. The fastest way to decide is to bring a list of the updates you actually make.

What the free demo gives you

Why it is safe to ask

  • The demo is free. If you decide not to go ahead, it costs you nothing.

What we set up so staff can edit without code

The same CMS can feel easy or painful depending on how it is configured. These are the details that make the difference:

  • Structured fields: a project entry has fields such as title, photos, area and duration, so typing the content is all it takes to get a finished page
  • A trimmed admin panel: editors see only the menus they need, which keeps layouts safe
  • Separate roles: individual accounts for people who write and people who approve – no shared logins
  • Drafts and preview: check the mobile view before anything goes live
  • Image handling: large photos are resized and optimized so pages stay fast
  • Maintenance basics: backups, SSL and a clear routine for core and plugin updates

When you ask agencies for quotes, ask directly: which items can we edit ourselves, how are roles split and who takes backups? Clear answers usually mean fewer surprises after launch.

How to train your staff so updates keep happening

If only one person knows how the CMS works, updates stop when that person is busy or leaves. Plan the handover before launch:

  • Short guides for common tasks – posting news, swapping a photo, changing hours
  • Practice on drafts that do not affect the live site, plus a checklist before pressing publish
  • Simple rules on who updates what and when, and how to write dates, names and prices consistently
  • A clear contact for questions or when something looks wrong

During the first month, note anything that felt unclear; it turns the guide into one that fits your company. If there are periods when nobody has time, you can hand updates to an outside partner – see website update service.

How UNANOBO builds CMS websites: free demo to handover

Before you commit to anything, UNANOBO builds a free demo site around your brand. While you click through it on your computer and phone, we talk about which pages your staff want to update and who will do it, then recommend a fitting CMS – WordPress, Shopify, BASE or another setup – and a structure.

During the build, fields and roles are shaped around your real updates, and at launch you receive step-by-step guides for each task. Training and questions after launch run by message, in Japanese or English. The process is free demo, feedback, launch, growth, and the founder handles every project personally, so you keep one contact from the first demo onward.

FAQ

Is the demo really free?

Yes. Building the demo costs nothing. You get a working site shaped around your brand and business that you can check on a computer and phone. A plan and estimate follow only after you have seen it.

What if we decide not to go ahead?

That is fine. If you pass after seeing the demo, there is no cost and no paperwork. Feel free to ask any questions by message before deciding.

Can staff who are not good with computers update the site?

Posting news or swapping photos is set up so that anyone comfortable with email or a blog can do it. Fields are trimmed to match the editors' experience, and you get a guide for each task. For the first few updates, you can check in with us by message.

Can you make our existing WordPress site easier to edit?

Often, yes. Sometimes cleaning up the admin panel and rebuilding the fields is enough; sometimes a rebuild is less work overall. After looking at your current site, we explain which option fits.

How long does it take, and what should we prepare?

A small site typically takes one to two months, depending on the number of pages and how ready the copy is. Logo files, photos, a list of updates you make and your domain and hosting details help a lot. You can start at the demo stage even if these are not ready.

Does working only by message really work?

Yes. UNANOBO works remotely, and everything from the first conversation to CMS training happens by message. Screenshots and written steps are easy to look back on later. Replies come in Japanese or English, usually within two business days.
