Website update service in Japan – send the changes, we keep your site current

New opening hours, a price change, fresh photos, a news post – small updates pile up fast, and they stall when nobody knows the admin panel or the original agency stops replying. This page explains what a website update service covers, how edit costs are usually set and what to prepare if someone else built your site. It also shows how UNANOBO handles updates: you send the changes by message, we quote and publish them.

  • Free demo – decide after you see it
  • By message, in Japanese or English
  • One person from demo to launch

What a website update service can take off your hands

A website update service makes content changes on your behalf. It fits the moment when your site does not need a rebuild – it just needs to match reality again. The most common requests:

  • Text edits: hours, prices, services, staff profiles, company details
  • News and blog posts: we take your draft, format headings and images, and publish
  • Image swaps: resized and compressed photos on the home page or product pages
  • New pages: a new service, recruiting, a campaign, an FAQ
  • Site elements: menus, banners, contact form fields, maps and booking buttons
  • Small fixes: broken links, mobile layout glitches, outdated PDFs

Keeping the site itself safe and running – CMS and plugin updates, backups, server checks – is usually treated separately as maintenance. See website maintenance for what that includes.

Signs it is time to outsource your updates

If someone on your side can update the site comfortably, that is the simplest option. If several of these sound familiar, outsourcing is worth a look:

  • The newest item in your news section is years old
  • The person who knew the admin login has moved on
  • The original agency is hard to reach or takes weeks to reply
  • You once tried an edit yourself, the layout broke and you could not undo it
  • Customers call to ask about prices or hours that are wrong on the site

Outdated information makes visitors wonder whether you are still open. A good first step: write down what is wrong and what you want to add. That list is most of a clear update request.

Updates on hold? Hand them over in one go

Updating a site built by another agency: what to prepare

Any capable developer can edit a site they did not build. They just need to know where it is hosted and what it runs on. Having these details ready speeds up both the quote and the work:

  • Site URL, plus the URLs of the pages you want changed
  • CMS and login: WordPress, Shopify, BASE, Wix, Peraichi or similar
  • Hosting and domain details: provider names and the account email or ID
  • FTP access, if the site is plain HTML without a CMS

If you cannot find them, old contract emails and invoices usually point the way. When the domain and hosting are registered in your name, you can move the site to any developer. If they are still in the agency's name, now is a good time to transfer them. For WordPress sites, also check our notes on WordPress maintenance.

What the free demo gives you

  • 01A working demoA demo site you can open and click through on a computer and a phone.
  • 02A structure proposalWhich pages you need, what goes on each and where visitors get in touch.
  • 03Plan and estimateAfter you have seen the demo you get the plan to launch and an estimate.

Why it is safe to ask

  • The demo is free. If you decide not to go ahead, it costs you nothing.
  • Everything happens by message, in Japanese or English.
  • Your domain, hosting, ad and analytics accounts stay in your name.
  • The founder handles your project from the first demo to growth after launch – one contact all the way.

Typical edit costs and how to brief an update

Cost depends on the amount of work and how the site is built. As a typical guide in Japan, a small text or image swap starts at a few thousand yen, a new page at a few tens of thousands, and monthly update plans covering a set number of edits often run around 10,000–50,000 yen. Plain HTML sites and design-heavy changes tend to cost more.

A clear brief keeps cost and result aligned. Send these four things in one message:

  • Where: the page URL and a screenshot of the spot to change
  • What: the new text or prices, pasted in as they should appear
  • Materials: photos and PDFs attached at their original size
  • When: the date it needs to be live, such as a campaign start

If you request changes several times a month, a monthly arrangement is often cheaper than paying per task. If you also want someone to watch traffic and suggest improvements, look at website operation support.

For pages that look dated, a free demo built from your current content shows the result first.

Or switch to a site you can update yourself

If your news or menu changes every week, a site you can edit yourself saves time and money in the long run. Plain HTML sites in particular need a developer for every single word.

With WordPress, Shopify or BASE, posting news or products feels like writing a blog. Many businesses split it: routine edits in-house, design changes and new pages by a pro. Our guide to easy-to-edit CMS websites helps you choose.

How UNANOBO handles updates: send it by message

Send us what to change, with the text and photos, by message. Even if another agency built your site, we first look at the URL, check how it runs and give you a per-task quote before any work starts. Once you agree, we make the changes and report back with a preview link or screenshots.

For pages that have aged badly, we can also build a free demo of the refreshed version from your current content. The process is free demo, feedback, launch, growth. The founder handles every project personally, so you always deal with one contact, in Japanese or English, and get a reply within two business days.

FAQ

Can I get a free demo for an update request?

Yes. If your home page or another page looks dated, we build a free demo of the updated version from your current content. You check it on a computer and a phone, then decide whether to go ahead.

What if I decide not to go ahead after the quote?

That is completely fine. Quotes and demos are free, and you can stop at that point without any cost.

Can you update a site built by another agency, even if they no longer reply?

Yes. We check how the site runs from its URL and tell you which logins we need. If you do not have them, we walk you through regaining access via your hosting and domain providers.

How fast are changes published?

Simple text or image swaps are typically live within a few business days once materials are in. For new pages or design changes, we give you a schedule with the quote. If you have a fixed launch date, mention it in your first message.

Can we meet in person?

UNANOBO works remotely from outside Japan, so everything runs by message. You can send screenshots and copy directly, which leaves a written record and causes fewer misunderstandings than phone calls. Japanese and English are both fine.

Can you also handle maintenance and marketing?

Yes. CMS updates, backups, SEO, MEO and Google Ads all run through the same contact. You can start with updates and add more whenever you need it.
