Google display ads management – bring interested visitors back
Display ads appear as images or video on news sites, blogs, apps and YouTube. They reach people who are not searching for you yet and bring back visitors who left without buying – but a loose setup can quietly spend your budget in places that never convert. This page explains what outsourced display ads management covers, when display pays off, what it typically costs and the mistakes to avoid.
- Free demo – decide after you see it
- By message, in Japanese or English
- One person from demo to launch

What Google display ads management covers
Search ads show up when someone is actively looking. Display ads run on the Google Display Network – and, for the Japanese market, often on Yahoo! JAPAN's display network too – reaching people while they read, watch or use apps. Their two jobs are building awareness and reconnecting with people who are still comparing options.
A managed service handles the whole cycle:
- Goals and metrics: what counts as a result (inquiry, purchase, booking) and a target cost per result
- Targeting: interest and in-market audiences, site topics and remarketing lists
- Creatives: banners plus the images, headlines and descriptions for responsive display ads
- Bids and budget: bidding strategy and how budget is split across campaigns
- Placement control: excluding apps and sites that waste spend or do not suit your brand
- Tracking and reporting: Google Ads tag and GA4 setup, regular reviews and changes
For a side-by-side view of search, display, social and video, see types of online ads. When you compare agencies, check which of these six items the fee actually includes.
When display ads pay off – and when to wait
Display works best as an addition to search ads that already bring traffic. It tends to pay off when:
- People visit your site but rarely inquire or buy on the first visit
- You sell higher-priced products or services with a decision cycle of weeks or months
- Your offer looks good in photos – food, interiors, beauty, finished renovations
- You are launching a new product or location that people do not search for yet
- Online shoppers regularly leave items in the cart
If your site gets very few visitors, remarketing lists stay too small to work. And if the landing page is slow on phones or the form is hard to find, better targeting will not fix the results. Check your monthly visits and test the landing page on a phone before you start.

Setting up remarketing that works
Remarketing (Yahoo! calls it site retargeting) shows ads to people who have already visited your site. It is usually the most cost-effective part of display, and results depend on how you split the lists:
- By depth of visit: home page only, product or service pages, cart or form – each gets its own message and bid
- By time: within 7 days, within 30 days and so on, matched to your decision cycle
- Exclude converters: people who already bought or inquired should stop seeing the same ad
- Cap frequency: too many impressions per person hurt your brand
- Follow the rules: mention ad cookies in your privacy policy; sensitive areas such as health have limits on personalized ads
Browser cookie rules keep shifting, so a clean link between the Google Ads tag and GA4, plus consented customer lists, keeps your audiences growing reliably.

Display ads cost and management fees
Budget has two parts: ad spend and the management fee. Ad spend can be charged per click, per thousand viewable impressions, or through automated bidding toward conversions. Clicks on display are typically cheaper than on search, yet they convert less often, so compare campaigns by cost per result.
You can start testing with a modest budget. In Japan, management fees are typically around 20% of ad spend, sometimes with a minimum monthly fee or a setup charge. When you read a quote, check:
- How the fee is calculated (percentage or flat monthly) and the minimum
- Whether banner design is included, or the price per set
- How often you get reports and how improvements are discussed
- Whether the ad account is in your name and stays with you if you leave
Creatives drive a large share of results – see ad banner design for how we approach them.

Metrics to watch and common mistakes
Display produces big impression numbers, so decide up front which figures you will judge by. The usual problems:
- Nobody checks the placement report, and most spend goes to apps and games full of accidental taps
- Banners are judged by click rate alone, with no link to inquiries or sales
- View-through conversions are counted as if they were click-through ones
- The same banners run for months and nobody notices the response fading
- A small budget is spread across many campaigns, so none collects enough data to learn
- The landing page is heavy on mobile and visitors leave within seconds
Most gains come from three habits: excluding weak placements, moving budget to the audiences that convert, and refreshing creatives regularly. To build awareness with video first and follow up with remarketing, see YouTube ads management.
How UNANOBO runs display ads: start with the landing page
Before any ad goes live, UNANOBO builds a free demo of the landing page your display visitors will arrive on. It uses your current content and brand, works well on phones and leads clearly to an inquiry or purchase – you click through it on a computer and a phone. After that you get a plan for combining search, display and remarketing, with an estimate.
The process is simple: free demo, feedback, launch, growth. The founder handles planning, daily optimization and reporting personally, so you keep one contact throughout. Ad accounts and GA4 are created and kept in your name, and everything runs by message in Japanese or English.

FAQ
Does the free demo cost anything?
No. Send your current site address and tell us what you want to advertise, and we build a demo of the landing page. You decide whether to hand over the ads after seeing it.
What if I decide not to go ahead?
That is fine. There is no charge at the demo stage, and whether to continue is entirely your call. Feel free to use what you learned from the demo in your own campaigns.
How long until we see whether it works?
Automated bidding needs a few weeks of data, so the first review is usually after about a month. For products with a long decision cycle, give remarketing two to three months. No specific results can be promised, but you get regular updates on the numbers.
What do we need to prepare?
Logo files, photos you want in the ads and a contact who can access the site admin. If you already have Google Ads or GA4 accounts, you share access; if not, new ones are created in your name.
Can we order remarketing only?
Yes. Remarketing needs a steady flow of visitors, so we also look at how search ads and SEO bring traffic and suggest a combination if needed.
You are not based in Japan – is that a problem?
Everything – setup checks, creative files and report walkthroughs – runs by message, in Japanese or English, with replies within two business days. When something is easier to show, you get screenshots and clear notes.
