Google search ads cost in Japan – click prices and how to set a monthly budget
The cost of search ads in Japan comes down to two things: what you pay Google for each click, and what you pay someone to run the account. How much to start with and what a sensible monthly budget looks like become clear once you know your click prices and how much one new customer is worth to you. This page walks through typical costs, budgeting from a target CPA, daily budgets and management fees – and why UNANOBO starts by building a free demo of the page your ads will send people to.
- Free demo – decide after you see it
- By message, in Japanese or English
- One person from demo to launch

What makes up the cost of search ads
It is easiest to separate what you pay the ad platform from everything else.
- Ad spend: you pay per click on your ad in search results. Impressions alone cost nothing, and you set the spending limit yourself
- Management fee: if an agency or specialist runs the account, typically around 20% of ad spend or a fixed monthly fee
- Setup and related costs: account structure, ad copy, conversion tracking and the landing page your ads point to
Neither Google Ads nor Yahoo! JAPAN's search ads have a minimum spend, so you can start with a few thousand yen. Ad spend is usually the largest part of the bill, and consumption tax is added to what the platform charges in Japan, so plan your budget tax-inclusive.
Typical click prices and monthly budgets in Japan
Click prices are set by auction: the more advertisers bid on the same keyword, the higher they go. They vary widely by industry, region and season, so treat these as rough, typical ranges.
- Local services and niche products: tens of yen to the low hundreds per click
- Restaurants, beauty and retail: around 100 yen to several hundred yen
- Real estate, recruiting and B2B services: several hundred yen to around 1,000 yen
- Legal, finance and aesthetic clinics: often above 1,000 yen, sometimes several thousand
Small businesses and local shops often start somewhere between 50,000 and 300,000 yen a month in ad spend. Averages only go so far, though – a more practical way to find your number is to work back from a target CPA, as below. For the wider picture including display and social ads, see online advertising costs.
The same ad spend brings very different results depending on the page people land on. Start with a free demo of yours.
Setting a monthly budget from your target CPA
The most dependable approach is to decide first how much you can spend to win one result – an inquiry, a booking, a sale – and calculate from there. That cost per result is your CPA (cost per acquisition).
- Find your allowable CPA: start from the gross profit of one sale, or the lifetime value of a customer including repeat visits
- Know your close rate: what share of inquiries turn into customers, based on your own history
- Estimate your CPA: CPA = cost per click ÷ conversion rate. At 150 yen per click and a 2% conversion rate, CPA is 7,500 yen
- Multiply by your monthly target: monthly budget = target CPA × target conversions. 20 conversions at 7,500 yen is 150,000 yen
If the estimated CPA is above what you can afford, narrow your keywords, limit regions or hours, or improve the landing page to raise the conversion rate. With the same click price, moving from 2% to 3% brings CPA down to 5,000 yen. Conversion rate is the number you control most directly.

Daily budgets in Google Ads and starting small
Google Ads asks for an average daily budget per campaign. Divide your monthly budget by 30.4 (the average days in a month): 150,000 yen a month is about 4,900 yen a day. A few mechanics are worth knowing:
- On busy days Google can spend up to twice your daily budget, but monthly charges never exceed the daily budget × 30.4
- If the budget is too small, ads hit the limit by late morning and stop showing for the rest of the day
- With only a few dozen clicks a month, it is hard to tell which keywords or ads are working
- Automated bidding such as Maximize conversions tends to settle once enough conversion data has built up
A practical floor is the amount that buys at least 100 clicks a month – enough to make decisions. At 200 yen per click that is 20,000 yen; if you want to test ad variations and improve steadily, plan for a few times that. Our guide to search ads on a small budget covers how to set this up.

Management fees and what to check before you sign
Fees for account management in Japan are typically around 20% of ad spend. Many agencies set a minimum of roughly 30,000 to 50,000 yen a month for small accounts, and a setup fee from tens of thousands up to about 100,000 yen is common. When comparing quotes, look at these points too:
- Account ownership: is the ad account in your name? With an agency-owned account, you may lose the history when the contract ends
- Reporting: do you get clicks, conversions and CPA every month?
- Tracking: will GA4 and Google Ads conversion tracking be set up properly?
- Scope: can you discuss landing page improvements as well as keywords and ad copy?
- Terms: minimum contract length, notice period and how the fee is calculated
For more on choosing a provider, see search ads management services. Whoever you work with, having conversion tracking and a strong landing page in place before launch is the surest way to make ad spend count.

FAQ
Does the free demo cost anything?
No. The demo is free, and if you decide not to go ahead there is no charge at all. No ads run during the demo stage, so there is no ad spend either.
What is the minimum budget for Google search ads?
Google Ads has no minimum spend. To collect data you can act on, a budget that buys around 100 clicks a month is a useful starting point. We work out a realistic amount together based on click prices in your industry.
How is ad spend paid?
We recommend adding your own payment method, such as a credit card, to a Google Ads account in your name and paying Google directly. That keeps ad spend separate from management costs, and you can see exactly what was spent at any time.
How long until we see results?
Ads can usually start within a few days of approval, but tuning keywords and ads until performance settles typically takes one to three months. Results depend on your market and competitors, so no specific number of leads or sales can be promised.
What should we prepare?
Your current site address (or a short description of your business), the areas you want to reach and a rough idea of the profit from one sale. If you have no budget figure yet, we can work it out from a target CPA after the demo.
Can we work together entirely by message?
Yes. Demo review, feedback, ad settings and reports are all handled by message, in Japanese or English. You get a reply within two business days.
