SEO friendly website design in Japan – built for search and AI answers from day one
When SEO is left until after launch, you end up changing page structure and URLs on a live site, which costs time and money. Sites that get found share a foundation that is set during production: clear structure, fast pages, structured data and a plan for what to publish next. This page walks through how to build that in, with a checklist you can use with any agency – and how UNANOBO shows you the structure in a free demo before you commit.
- Free demo – decide after you see it
- By message, in Japanese or English
- One person from demo to launch

What SEO friendly website design really means
Most of a site's search potential is decided by its skeleton, long before anyone thinks about keywords in the copy. Search engines and AI assistants both favor pages they can read and understand easily. Four things are set during production:
- Site structure: separate pages for each service, problem or product line, reachable within two or three clicks from the home page
- Speed: compressed images, fewer plugins and scripts, load times checked on a phone
- Structured data: company, location, products and FAQs marked up in a format search engines understand
- Content plan: which pages exist at launch and which articles follow, in what order
Changing these after the design is finished is close to a rebuild. Set them first and your post-launch SEO work becomes simple: add articles and refine copy. For the full production process, see website production.
What goes wrong when a site is built without search in mind
A site can look polished and still have problems that keep it out of search results. These are the most common. All can be fixed later, but fixes that touch URLs or structure can take as much work as a new build.
- Every service sits on one home page, so searches for a specific need never land on you
- Headings are images, so search engines cannot read them
- Every page title is just the company name, so results all look the same
- Heavy photos and animations make the site slow to appear on a phone
- Address and opening hours are written differently across pages and do not match Google Maps
- There is nowhere to publish articles, and adding a blog means a second system
Count how many of these apply to your site. To improve a site that is already live, see website SEO; if you are planning a rebuild, see SEO during a site renewal.

SEO checklist for a new website
Use this list in agency meetings or to review a site yourself before handover. Aim to have every item in place by launch day.
- URLs: short, readable, consistent – and chosen so they never need to change
- Titles and descriptions: a unique, descriptive title and meta description on every page
- Headings: one h1 per page, with h2 and h3 reflecting the real structure of the content
- Internal links: related services and articles linked to each other, with no orphan pages
- Mobile and speed: checked in PageSpeed Insights, images served in light formats such as WebP
- Structured data: the types that fit your content, such as Organization, LocalBusiness, Product or FAQPage
- Tracking and indexing: GA4 and Search Console set up, XML sitemap submitted
Structured data shapes how your pages appear in results and helps AI systems understand who you are and what you sell. Our guide to structured data covers each type and how to test it. The checklist also works as a set of questions when you request quotes.

A content plan that AI answers can pick up
Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT and similar tools now quote websites directly in their answers. The pages they pick tend to answer a question clearly and make it obvious which business the information comes from. During production we plan content in this order:
- Collect real questions: write down 20 to 30 things customers ask by phone, email or in person
- Assign them to pages: decide which belong on service pages, which in the FAQ and which become articles
- Lead with the answer: open each page with the conclusion, then add the reasons and steps
- Keep facts consistent: company name, address, pricing approach and service area written the same way everywhere
- Order the next articles: list what to publish in the first three months, starting with topics closest to an inquiry
With this plan you know what to write the day the site goes live, so updates keep going. If time for writing is short, choose an admin panel that makes it easy to post even a few paragraphs.
Send a few questions customers often ask, and we will reflect them in the page structure of your free demo.
How to check whether an agency is really good at SEO
Almost every web agency says it builds SEO friendly sites. The difference is in the details, so ask these questions during quotes and meetings:
- Do they propose which pages to create for which search terms?
- Can they explain what exactly they do for structured data and speed?
- Will you be able to edit titles and copy yourself after launch?
- Are GA4, Search Console and the domain registered in your name?
- Do they avoid promises like "guaranteed first place"?
Rankings are decided by Google, so no agency can guarantee a position. What you want to hear is what they will design for search and how they will improve the site after launch. Typically, projects that include keyword research and SEO planning take a little more time and budget than design-only builds, so check whether that work is in the quote when you compare.

FAQ
Is the demo really free? What if I don't go ahead?
Yes, the demo is free. If you decide not to continue after seeing it, there is no cost at all. When you like the demo, you receive a production plan and an estimate.
Will an SEO friendly site rank at the top right away?
New sites typically take several months to be evaluated by search engines. Rankings are set by search engines, so no position can be promised. We build a solid foundation during production and keep improving the site with Search Console data after launch.
What should I prepare before asking?
Your current site address or a short description of your business, your logo and a few questions customers often ask. That is enough for a specific structure proposal. You do not need to research keywords in advance, and any missing materials are listed for you after the demo.
How long does production take?
It depends on the number of pages and how ready your copy is. As a general guide, a small site takes about one to two months. You get a concrete schedule in the plan sent after the demo.
You work remotely. Is communication by message enough?
Yes. Everything runs by message in Japanese or English, so there are no meetings to schedule and you can reply whenever it suits you. You hear back within two business days.
Can you build an SEO friendly online store on Shopify or BASE?
Yes. On Shopify, BASE and WordPress with WooCommerce we plan product page structure, titles, structured data and speed. Each platform allows a different level of control, so we tell you during the demo stage what is possible on yours.
