Website copywriting in Japan – start from a ready draft

On most website projects the slowest part is the copy. Owners know their business inside out, yet putting it into words for a stranger is hard, and launches slip by months while everyone waits for text. This page covers what to decide before writing, what each page should contain, how to check your copy and how to split the work – and why UNANOBO starts with a free demo that already contains draft copy.

  • Free demo – decide after you see it
  • By message, in Japanese or English
  • One person from demo to launch

FREE DEMO

A free demo with draft copy

Send your current site address or a brochure, and we build a free demo with draft headings and descriptions for your pages. Read it, then decide whether to go ahead.

  • Draft copy, so you skip the blank page
  • Check readability on a real screen
  • A proposal for pages and copy scope

A phone number or an email address is enough – whichever suits you.

Why website copy stalls

When website copywriting gets stuck, the cause is usually the order of work. Sit down in front of a blank page and you either have too much to say or nothing at all. These are the most common reasons:

  • Nobody agreed who the site is for, so the text tries to speak to everyone
  • Internal jargon that makes sense inside the company and confuses first-time visitors
  • Pages open with company history while the visitor's actual question waits at the bottom
  • Writing starts before the page structure is settled, so content repeats across pages
  • Too many reviewers, and the direction shifts with every round

All of these are fixed before writing begins. Start by putting into one sentence who you serve, what you offer them and what you want them to do next.

Three things to settle before you write

Clear copy is mostly planning. Put these three points on a single sheet and every page becomes easier to write.

  • The reader: area, age, the problem they have and who else they are comparing you with
  • Why people choose you: three things you can state as fact – what you handle, what you specialize in, how you work
  • The next step: a call, a booking, a form, a visit or a purchase – one action to ask for at the end of each page

Fix the overall page list at the same time so copy is neither duplicated nor missing. Our guide to planning your website structure walks through it.

What each page needs

Every page has a job, and the job decides what to write and how much. These are the core pages of most small and mid-sized business sites:

  • Home: what you are, who you serve and what sets you apart, all on the first screen; details live on inner pages
  • Services or products: who it is for, what is included, the process and timing; one page per service works best
  • Pricing: typical amounts, what is included and what costs extra – or, if prices vary, how they are worked out
  • About: location, hours, the owner's approach and real photos; facts that build trust
  • FAQ: the questions you actually get by phone and email, in your customers' own words
  • Contact: reply time, a short form and what happens after someone sends it

You can launch without every page perfect. Finish home, services and contact first, then grow pricing and FAQ after launch based on the questions real visitors send.

What the free demo gives you

Demo sites we built

Template demos with fictional brands. Yours is built with your own brand and content.

A checklist for copy people actually read

Assume visitors scan. They read the headings and the first line, then decide whether to stay. Once you have a draft, check it against this list:

  • The headings alone tell the story of the page
  • Sentences are short and make one point each
  • Industry terms and abbreviations get a quick explanation
  • Words like "high quality" or "careful" come with what you actually do
  • Photos and diagrams carry what they show better than text
  • Health, beauty or results claims are checked against Japan's Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Act and the Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations
  • Every page ends with a clear next step and a button

To be found in search, write with the words customers type. Content SEO explains how FAQs and helpful articles build that over time. Rules and their interpretation change, so check the latest official guidance or ask a specialist when a claim feels borderline.

A workflow that keeps copy moving

Copy kept entirely in-house tends to wait behind daily work. Splitting the roles and working in short rounds keeps it moving:

  • Gather: brochures, flyers, quotes, proposals and notes on common questions – text you already have
  • Interview: the owner and the people who serve customers explain why customers choose you
  • Draft: the web side writes a first version of each page from that material
  • Review: check facts, tone and anything you prefer not to publish, with one or two reviewers
  • Finish: place the text in the design and adjust length and readability on screen

Editing a draft is far faster than writing from scratch. If you also need pages for overseas customers or partners, shape the Japanese copy so it adapts well to English from the start – see English website production.

How UNANOBO handles copy: a free demo with draft text

Before you commit, UNANOBO builds a free demo from what you already have – your current site, brochure or social media. The demo includes draft headings and introductory copy along with the design, so you never face a blank page. You read it on screen, tell us what feels off or what is missing, and the copy is refined from your feedback.

The process is simple: free demo, feedback, launch, growth. The founder handles every project personally, so the intent behind your copy stays with one person from the first draft to improvements after launch. Everything runs by message, in Japanese or English, and short replies whenever you have a moment are enough to move the text forward.

FAQ

Can we start with no copy at all?

Yes. We draft from whatever you have: your current site, brochures, social posts or flyers. If there is nothing yet, we start with a few questions you answer by message.

How much text does the free demo include?

A working demo centered on the home page, with headings and service descriptions drafted from your information. You can read it on a computer and a phone and judge the wording and order. The demo is free, and you decide after seeing it.

Is there any cost if we decide not to continue?

No. If you stop after the demo, you pay nothing. If you go ahead, you receive a plan and estimate after the demo, including the page structure and the scope of copy.

How long does the copy review take?

It depends on the number of pages and reviewers. For a small site, a few rounds of consolidated feedback on the drafts is usually enough. We aim to reply within two business days, and keeping reviewers to one or two people speeds things up.

Can copy be written without meetings in person?

Yes. Everything runs by message, in Japanese or English. Bullet-point notes, photos and existing documents are plenty to work from.

Can we edit the text ourselves after launch?

Yes. Sites are built on platforms with an easy admin panel, such as WordPress, Shopify or BASE, and you get guidance by message. You can also leave ongoing updates like news and new FAQs to us.
